The Band Meme redux

Turnbaby loves that word...redux.

I have decided that The Band Meme is my all time favorite meme. When I put together my CD cover, I decided I would go a step further and create a track list to go with it.

Well, that was even more fun! And the track titles really do sound like they could be songs. I'm really more of a poet than a lyricist, but I figured I could use little scraps of unfinished poems and maybe write just a few verses for the tracks.

Here's my CD.

Track 1: Too Much Of A Temptation

A wink, and just a little giggle
She walks away with a naughty wiggle
Mm-mm...too much of a temptation

Track 2: Craft A Spirit

I yearn to show you the sun
And throw wide the curtains
To the sweet light of day

Track 3: Decision

Sometimes I wonder who’s winning
Is it the demons in my head?
They speak plain as day to this hedonist
Through the twists and the vagaries of time

Track 4: A Helpless Thing

Welcome sweet child, to the alpha
The first breath
Open your eyes tender babe
And hear my voice

I stand amazed, a helpless thing

Never fear precious girl, for I shelter you
No harm shall come
You are cherished and I am inspired
Content and serene

The first cry, a helpless thing

So tiny my dear one
My love unbound for you
In your ear I sing this truth
All the world shall be yours
My sweet one, my precious one
My small one, a helpless thing

Track 5: Facing A Mirror

I don’t know myself sometimes
I breathe in and out as I must
Seeming alive, moving as a man does
Yet where am I going?
I can’t find myself sometimes
I think and speak to others as I must
Seeming noteworthy, answering as a man should
Yet what do I know?

Facing a mirror
Feeling the sun on my face
Cleansing my soul as I must
Becoming free as a man is
Facing a mirror

I’ve seen myself sometimes
Taking charge and doing what I must
Seeming brave, standing up as a man will
Yet why do I fear?
I am not myself sometimes
I behave outrageously as I must
Seeming strong, acting my part as a man may
Yet am I a fool?

Facing a mirror
Feeling the sun on my face
Cleansing my soul as I must
Becoming free as a man is
Facing a mirror

Track 6: There's A Lot More I Could Be Doing

If I float awhile
I see where I might go
If I focus I am there
But there's a lot more I could be doing

Track 7: It's Useless

A voice may speak
Though no one care
I may care
Yet fear to speak

Track 8: Fill Yourself Up

When the time comes to choose
stand tall and choose boldly;
When the time comes to move
step quickly and resolutely.
Fill yourself up.

Moments fade like the setting sun,
lingering on a distant horizon,
Ending the day with splashes of color,
yielding to night as it comes.
Fill yourself up.

Track 9: Listen to the Whisper

I miss the simplicity of rainbows
And the songs of sparrows
The days of my youth pass none too gently
My heart sheds a tear for her memory

Oh listen to the whisper
The ticking of the clock
Innocent no longer
A tear shed for love
Listen, listen to the whisper

Track 10: The Things We Do

Do you crawl or do you fly
Does it matter which
Do you watch or do you try
Do your palms ever itch

Track 11: Fools Are Positive

Sitters and thinkers
Movers and shakers
Fools are positive

Watchers and talkers
Crawlers and walkers
Fools are positive

Lonely and thirsting
Surrounded to bursting
Fools are positive

Hopeless and yearning
Awakened to learning
Fools are positive

Nothing is pointless
Forever is timeless
Fools are positive

Track 12: Enough To Go Around

Not enough to go around
Your time, your attention
Less than I want, less than I need
And not enough to go around

I'll do a dance for you
To entice you and distract you
I can be what you want and what you need
More than enough to go around

Oh sure. I don't expect it to sell a million copies. Or even five copies. It's just my art.

Oh, sorry...I thought we were doing a concert.

  1. Jeff B says:

    It's a memepalooza!

    Well done good man.

  1. Dude, rock on. *Flashes his lighter, and the heavy metal sign*

  1. DrillerAA says:

You're right, most of these could be real songs. Great job. Very creative and entertaining.

  1. Akelamalu says:

    Fantabulous! I love 'The Whisper'

  1. Those are really good, Trav. You should do more!

  1. Linda says:

You rock! Really, you need your own CD at this point!

I'm with Turnbaby, I love the word "redux"!

  1. TopChamp says:

I think I like 'a helpless thing' best now. But it's really hard to choose as they are all so different.

  1. Meribah says:

Beautiful, Trav! You could definitely be a songwriter. I'm sure you could do as well (if not better) than those who already do this kind of thing for a living. :)

  1. Julie says:

Hmmm "Enough to Go Around" Now THAT has promise. So do the others but I really like that one.

    **holds lighter high**

  1. Songbird: LOL! I'm just the wordsmith.

Jeff: Memepalooza! Now there's a word!

Kyra; Woooo! So I'll make at least $9.99 on the discount rack!

    Charles: Bang your head dude!

    Drilleraa: Thank you Sir.

    Akelamalu: Thanks!

    Starr: Thank you Ma'am!

Linda: But there's no music...just words.

TC: They are different...that's for sure.

Meri: If songwriting is poetry, then I guess I did ok.

    Julie: Do you think so?

  1. RW says:

Holy cow! You put a lot of work in that my man!! Nice job!

  1. Unknown says:

You make all of our band memes look like hamburger in a world of steaks!

  1. WOW this is incredible....is Dean-o gonna record any of these?

I will buy for my entire family for the holidays...

  1. You are SO cool! Will you autograph my copy?

  1. Roger: Any chance to show off.

    John: Thanks dude.

    Dana: Awww shucks.

V: Well, somebody would have to write some music and some of the songs need to be finished lyrics-wise.

    Misty: Hehehehehehehe

  1. I want the album now. You've teased us enough, now you have to put the album out. :)

  1. This is so unfair. I come here to see one meme (again) and I get a "memepalooza" - to use Jeff's word.

I cannot choose. They are all soulfully written. What makes this so special is that they are ALL so different. I like your poetry snippets in a "collection" like this. And I will say to you what you once wrote to me on my blog:

"Sometimes I just like to come here and read your words."

    Thank you.

  1. John: But the songs are unfinished and don't have any music!

Mimi: We could have a memepalooza. And thank you for your encouragement.

  1. that was very well done...

  1. And it was JUST as awesome the second time around. Even better.

  1. Wordsmith indeed! These are wonderful lines of poetry. Very deep and truthful.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  1. There is so much depth to you that you could easily be a lyracist. Wonderful take on this meme.
