Dance Wars

OK, apparently this is a real talent show.

There was a nationwide search for 30 kids to send to Hollywood to train and compete for 14 spots on the show. Those 14 performers are split into teams, which will be coached by Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, two of the judges from Dancing With The Stars. The show is hosted by Drew Lachey.

We're talking both singing and dancing here. You have to be well rounded.

I don't know if this program will be reviewable or not. But at least it gives us something to watch for the next six weeks.

There are some very talented kids on the show. I guess we'll be hearing their stories as things progress.

Next Monday, Bruno and Carrie Ann will choose their teams. But there will be two performers eliminated, so the teams will be six kids each.

I still don't know what the ultimate prize is going to be, but I guess we'll figure that out as we go.

To Ohio State fans, congratulations on a great season. The Buckeyes were able to take advantage of teams that fell ahead of them and slipped into the BCS Title game.

To LSU fans, congratulations on your BCS Title. I can't call them national champions, because the Tigers took advantage of the opportunity to play for the BCS Title despite losing 2 games. They were SEC Conference champions, and their spot in the BCS Title game was a nod to how good the SEC is.

College football needs a playoff system. When you can have a record of 6-6 and still get to a bowl game, that's just not right. And when you can go undefeated in the regular season and not get a chance to compete for a national title, that's not right either.

So take all the conference champions and the best independent, and seed them into a tournament. You can weight the seeds based on major and mid-major conferences. But let's get them on the field and have them play for it.

    I tried to figure out how the BCS worked one year. I don't think I've ever fully recovered. Hope this new show helps with your DWTStars withdrawls.

    I too, am itching to watch some dance show since DWTStars has been off air. It doesn't look nearly as entertaining as the other show, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

    I watched about two minutes of the DW. The audition parts with Bruno being snide and then the hugging by Carrie Ann--ugh.

    And as for the BCS--I agree that there should be a playoff. However--this year the undefeated team --Hawaii-- got their hats handed to them by Georgia in a 41-10 rout in the Sugar Bowl.

    And Geaux Tigers!! Yep I'm congratulating LSU in their victory over the OSU Buckeyes. Did they lose twice --YUP. And who did they lose to????? Arkansas and Kentucky.

    And who defeated Arkansas??? Kentucky ;-)

    I think it does not make sense to say that LSU can't be called a National Champion simply because they have two losses. I think it's fair to complain about how they got placed in the game but once there they performed. I'm wracking my brain so I did a quick check and came up with 1956 San Francisco Dons 1957 North Carolina Tarheels 1964 UCLA Bruins 1967 UCLA Bruins 1972 UCLA Bruins 1973 UCLA Bruins 1976 Indiana University Hoosiers

    as the undefeated teams who have won a National Championship in Basketball since the NCAA went to the playoff system in basketball.

    The thing about a playoff system is you just have to get in--in conferences with automatic bids a team with a losing record can get into the NCAA tourney and vie for the National Championship.

    So I give props to LSU and the SEC---and my grin couldn't get much bigger--well maybe a little.

    They did this here. Bruno V Arlene Phillips. It was rubbish but I watched it. Some of the dancers were really good but they didn't get anyone who could sing really well AND dance really well.

    Wonder if they'll find more talent over there.

  1. Schmoop says:

    Carrie Ann looks pretty hot. But my heart still belongs to Cheryl. Purrrrrrr. Cheers!!

  1. Marsha says:

    Don't you at least just love how they went through the auditions down to the final 14 all in ONE show. Wish Idol would take that hint....lol

  1. Akelamalu says:

    Dancing on Ice starts here on Sunday - I love it!

    D'oh! I missed this one last night. :(

    We watched a DVD we'd rented and I didn't DVR it because I'd forgotten. With the writer's strike, there's just nothing on lately! This will be a nice break.

  1. cathy says:

    I hope it is reviewable, you can never have too much dancing!

  1. Jeff: Georgia is making a fuss today about some kind of playoff. But the problem I have with them is that they didn't win the SEC. So I wouldn't accept them in a playoff, much less in a national title game.

    That Girl: The kids seem talented, so maybe it'll do until DWTS and SYTYCD return.

    Turn: The auditions were a little silly, but at least they got done with them in one show. My point is that the BCS system now is exclusive - some conferences aren't recognized as part of the coalition. So if it isn't representative of all, it's not a national championship. I applaud LSU for winning the game that they were given, but IMO that makes them BCS champions and not NCAA national champions.

    TC: It looks like there may be several double threats in this group.

    Matt: Gotta respect a man who stays true.

    Marsha: Yup. And the kept the no talent showings to a very few.

    Akelamalu: Woooooooooo!!

    CWM: You didn't miss a lot. There were only a couple of performances and the rest was auditions and selecting the final 14.

    Cathy: You are correct!

  1. But on the other hand. the NFL has a playoff system and teams do sometimes make it who are 50 percent wins. I wouldn't mind a playoff system, personally, though.

  1. Unknown says:

    We had a similar show over here last year. It wasn't brilliant but maybe the American version will be better.

  1. Yeah college football rules make me dizzy. I long ago gave up trying to understand them and just watch on a game by game basis. Guess that will have to change when I move to the south. Football is a religion there ;)

  1. I just knew you would at least be in on the start of this bandwagon. Let me know if it is worth watching since I tend to avoid the "reality" shows but do love dancing.

  1. RW says:

    Your sooo right about College football needs a playoff system!! I haven't heard about this new show sounds interesting, have a good day Travis!

  1. totally agree on some sort of playoff but until the Rose Bowl contract is over (2014?) I do not think it will happen..

    I would think even a Plus 1 game would at least work..this year allowing USC to play LSU in a week or two...

    I did not think the Buckeyes deserved to be in this game... LSU did lose in triple overtime to a team from...hummm where was that one team from...think they wear blue...could be...

    heheheheheheheh

  1. My husband loves DWTS and watched this one last night. He said it was "interesting." Couldn't quite get a read on that...
    Hope you enjoy !
    ~~~Blessings~~~
  1. Charles: That's true about the NFL. But I suspect that such will be avoided with the NCAA if they restrict the invitees to the playoff tournament to conference champions and the best independent.
    Pauline: I'm hopeful.
    Starr: Football and auto racing.
    Jamie: The kids look like they might at least be talented. I guess we'll know after next Monday weather the show is worth watching.
    Roger: I hope they come up with something better than the silly idea of a plus one game.
    V: I think it'll happen sooner. The Rose Bowl people were stubborn until they finally realized it was in their best interests to join the BCS. I think they'll come around much quicker this time.
    Gracie: Interesting is the word.
  1. Julie says:
    Since I watch very little tv and since Dance Wars won't be a 2 or 3 times a week show...i think i'll continue checking it out.
  1. Lisa Ryan says:
    hah, I thought of you Trav when I saw the ads for the new show. It looks good.
