The dreaded double elimination
Posted: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 by Travis Cody in
Yup. Tonight we have an unprecedented double elimination. One male and one female celebrity are finished tonight.
But before we get to that, let's have some encores!
First up, Bond tells me that Marlee deserves to be featured and I couldn't agree more. Here is her Quickstep with partner Fabian. The judges' criticism was valid about this being a non traditional Quickstep, but the music had a Latin flavor to it so I don't really mind too much. Plus they danced it so well.
We definitely need to see the Mambo from Jason and Edyta, if for no other reason than Edyta's dress and legs legs legs legs legs! Oh my THUMP!
Here is the precise and controlled Mambo from Priscilla and Louis. We loved her attitude and performance through the whole dance.
And the dance of the night...the Mambo from Kristi and Mark. Wow.
Hey! If 7 year olds can do this stuff, so can you! Check this out. These two kids are from just north of where I live and they are headed to the US Nationals. It looks like International Standard and Latin style. The last 4 minutes or so of this clip shows the kids in competition, holding their own against much older kids.
OK. Let's have some results!
The judges select the Mambo from Jason and Edyta for tonight's encore.
Who is safe? The first couple is Steve & Anna.
Tonight's special performance is from The Jonas Brothers. Should you be interested, you may click here to catch the flavor of these musical teenagers. They performed the Aha song Take Me On with a bit of a punk flavor. Tony & Anna and Jonathan & Edyta performed Jive to the music.
And now Jason & Edyta are safe, as are Mario & Karina.Day-um y'all!! Julie told me to switch over at 9:24pm to see Mr David Cook have one of THE moments of this or any other season of the show that will not be named. Oh. My. Fuck. That performance rivaled this from Bo Bice in season 4. I will get that video as soon as I can find it on youtube. The performance is not to be missed.
Adam & Julianne are safe (go figure that), putting Penn & Kym and Cristian & Cheryl in jeopardy of going home. Len believes that Cristian has the potential to go far. Carrie Ann calls Penn the largest presence on the dance floor, bringing entertainment value. Bruno says we love Penn but he can't dance, and Cristian should stay.
Penn & Kym are out, which means Cristian and Cheryl are safe.
Now the first of the ladies to be safe is Shannon with partner Derek.
Well that's something you don't see everyday. That was an amazing aerial dance routine, combining acrobatics and wires and dancers flying all over the ballroom. The music was I Would Do Anything For Love from Meatloaf. But I didn't catch the name of the performers dangit.
The Jonas Brothers are back to perform their latest hit, with Louis & Cheryl performing Rumba. Matt! You should have seen Cheryl's dress! Dude!
Marlee & Fabian are safe, along with Kristi & Mark. Little surprise there.
Priscilla & Louis are safe. Carrie Ann says Monica has a new sense of confidence. Len says that Marissa has the performance, and needs to work hard with Tony. Bruno says this is a tough elimination because Monica is a legend, but Marissa sells it better as a Broadway performer.
Monica & Jonathan are out, which means Marissa & Tony continue.
And then there were eight, who next week will dance either Tango or Jive. Also, Kylie Minogue performs on the results show next Tuesday.
Later babies!
Another thing that came to mind about Kristi: she used to skate pairs in addition to singles. In fact, she won the US national pairs title TWICE (1989 and 1990) with Rudy Galindo, who himself went on as a singles skater and won a US National title as well as a World's bronze medal.
Working and performing with a partner is not new to Kristi, and I think this shows.
Thanks for the highlights. I've gotten interested this time around because of Kristi, and I'm reading your reviews more thoroughly, Trav.
