The dreaded double elimination

Yup. Tonight we have an unprecedented double elimination. One male and one female celebrity are finished tonight.

But before we get to that, let's have some encores!

First up, Bond tells me that Marlee deserves to be featured and I couldn't agree more. Here is her Quickstep with partner Fabian. The judges' criticism was valid about this being a non traditional Quickstep, but the music had a Latin flavor to it so I don't really mind too much. Plus they danced it so well.

We definitely need to see the Mambo from Jason and Edyta, if for no other reason than Edyta's dress and legs legs legs legs legs! Oh my THUMP!

Here is the precise and controlled Mambo from Priscilla and Louis. We loved her attitude and performance through the whole dance.

And the dance of the night...the Mambo from Kristi and Mark. Wow.

Hey! If 7 year olds can do this stuff, so can you! Check this out. These two kids are from just north of where I live and they are headed to the US Nationals. It looks like International Standard and Latin style. The last 4 minutes or so of this clip shows the kids in competition, holding their own against much older kids.

OK. Let's have some results!

The judges select the Mambo from Jason and Edyta for tonight's encore.

Who is safe? The first couple is Steve & Anna.

Tonight's special performance is from The Jonas Brothers. Should you be interested, you may click here to catch the flavor of these musical teenagers. They performed the Aha song Take Me On with a bit of a punk flavor. Tony & Anna and Jonathan & Edyta performed Jive to the music.

And now Jason & Edyta are safe, as are Mario & Karina.

Day-um y'all!! Julie told me to switch over at 9:24pm to see Mr David Cook have one of THE moments of this or any other season of the show that will not be named. Oh. My. Fuck. That performance rivaled this from Bo Bice in season 4. I will get that video as soon as I can find it on youtube. The performance is not to be missed.

Adam & Julianne are safe (go figure that), putting Penn & Kym and Cristian & Cheryl in jeopardy of going home. Len believes that Cristian has the potential to go far. Carrie Ann calls Penn the largest presence on the dance floor, bringing entertainment value. Bruno says we love Penn but he can't dance, and Cristian should stay.

Penn & Kym are out, which means Cristian and Cheryl are safe.

Now the first of the ladies to be safe is Shannon with partner Derek.

Well that's something you don't see everyday. That was an amazing aerial dance routine, combining acrobatics and wires and dancers flying all over the ballroom. The music was I Would Do Anything For Love from Meatloaf. But I didn't catch the name of the performers dangit.

The Jonas Brothers are back to perform their latest hit, with Louis & Cheryl performing Rumba. Matt! You should have seen Cheryl's dress! Dude!

Marlee & Fabian are safe, along with Kristi & Mark. Little surprise there.

Priscilla & Louis are safe. Carrie Ann says Monica has a new sense of confidence. Len says that Marissa has the performance, and needs to work hard with Tony. Bruno says this is a tough elimination because Monica is a legend, but Marissa sells it better as a Broadway performer.

Monica & Jonathan are out, which means Marissa & Tony continue.

And then there were eight, who next week will dance either Tango or Jive. Also, Kylie Minogue performs on the results show next Tuesday.

Later babies!

  1. Another thing that came to mind about Kristi: she used to skate pairs in addition to singles. In fact, she won the US national pairs title TWICE (1989 and 1990) with Rudy Galindo, who himself went on as a singles skater and won a US National title as well as a World's bronze medal.

Working and performing with a partner is not new to Kristi, and I think this shows.

Thanks for the highlights. I've gotten interested this time around because of Kristi, and I'm reading your reviews more thoroughly, Trav.

Thank you so much for the reviews and clips sugar--there are things going on making me miss shows and i know I can count on your reviews so tht it doesn't feel like I've missed much.

And Jason and Edyta are RAWR.

  1. BeckEye says:

Isn't Penn's partner trying to be a country singer now? She probably told him to tank it so she could focus on her new career. Of course, he looks like an uncoordinated oaf so I imagine it wasn't too hard for him to dance badly. I never watch the show, it's just a feeling I get. :)

Who are Monica and Jonathan? Which one is the "star?"

  1. Akelamalu says:

This is better than watching it on the telly! :)

  1. DrillerAA says:

Beckeye asked an interesting question. That fact is that the professional dancers have become the stars and the "stars" have become the supporting cast. With a very few exceptions, the invited stars are "C-list" at best while the dancers have developed fan bases of their own.
I am sure that Juliene Hough fans are devastated that she got stuck with Adam Carolla, who will undoubtedly be the next one gone. As Bond so aptly named the show, "Hot Legs and Shoes", there is a male fan base that tunes into see Juliene, Eydta, Cheryl and Kym expose various body parts, while the women actually tune in to see the competition as well as the male dancers.

  1. Ivanhoe says:

Another great review - as always! :o))))
I think it's right on for Pen & Monica being out. Was that a surprice to you?

  1. I thought Adam would go...Penn is a clodder, but Adam is the pits...

Have to watch the videos when I get home

And will have to find the David Cook video also...as I was in a migraine induced sleep for everything last night

  1. Travis, I saw a clip of Marlee dancing and how she does it with her partner - just marvelous. Penn said on GMA that he lost 50 pounds practicing for the dancing. He did look rather plodding when they showed him dancing...

  1. Travis, you asked if I had the St. Pat's glasses on my Easter table... And yes I did. I gave them to my 2 year old grandnephew to play with...Ha!

  1. they were cirque du soleil. If you can imagine two hours of that type of performance to beatles music...

I was sorry to see Monica go...but it is a dance gig...and it probably was the right choice.

This is gonna be a tough season every week I am afraid...

  1. Linda says:

I caught the very tail end of this show last night so naturally didn't get to see anyone dance. DUH! That's okay, I can get all I need to know right here without the commercials!

  1. RW says:

Dance the night away Travis (you probably never heard that one huh?)have a good time bud!

  1. The show was great last night. I think the "I Would Do anything for Love" were Cirque du Solleil cast members.

The children in the video were amazing and I was impressed with the smoothness of their tango. Not super hot at their age, but even in its simplest form it's not easy.

Keep up the rundowns. Love your reviews.

  1. Just saw the comment before mine. If you get to Vegas, definitely go see Cirque du Solleil's "LOVE" at the Mirage. It is an amazing show.

  1. Songbird: I'm glad you're enjoying the show.

Turn: I hope things settle down so you can enjoy the show.

Beck: Penn was charming, but definitely not a dancer.

    Akelamalu: Thanks for the compliment!

Drilleraa: You know, I've thought that as well. The appeal of the results show for me is that the pros are featured doing what they do so well.

Ivanhoe: It didn't surprise me, but Monica was so sweet that I felt bad that her athletic prowess didn't translate to the ballroom.

V: I wish Adam had gone. Now we have another freaking week of him. You'll enjoy the DC performance.

    Mimi: You're welcome dear.

Teach: Marlee is just tremendous. We're enjoying her so much. And I though I recognized those glasses! LOL!

Katherine: Those dancers really were amazing. I definitely want to see that show live some day. I think you're right that this is going to be a competitive season.

    Linda: Yup!

    Roger: I will do so!

Jamie: Those kids were so serious about their dancing. It was great to watch.

  1. I didn't think Penn was going to last long. Ah well. At least he had the cojones to give it a shot!

  1. Barb says:

Soo.. who do you think has the stuff to win? :)

  1. Julie says:

Oh Travis! I ran across that Bo song just yesterday! Thanks for putting his video up for me! Wooo!!!!

**runs back to play it again**
