In Solidarity: Global Day for Darfur

As a general rule, I don't post about controversial or political topics. However, the tragedy of Darfur isn't about politics. It is the very definition of man's inhumanity to man.

This information is excerpted from a story on Frontline World...

The collision of cultures, religions and ethnicities in Sudan -- including those of sub-Saharan Africa and those of the Arab Islamic world -- have led to nearly 50 years of civil war. Since 1956, when Sudan first gained independence from the United Kingdom, there have been only 11 years of peace.

I'm not an expert on the suffering in Darfur. But I am a human being and I felt that it was important to join in solidarity with other bloggers to shine a light on the tragedy.

When I was a kid, I was sometimes told to clean my plate because there were children starving in Africa. My friends, it is so much worse than that.

Peace.

What is going on in Darfur is an atrocity. The videos informative and extremely heartwrenching. Thank You for this post and educating me on what is going on in Darfur and what can be done to help stop what is happening to these innocent people.

  1. Thanks for educating me. I really had no idea.

    Such a thoughtful post Trav.

Very provocative post, Trav. It is terrible what goes on not just in Darfur but around the world, including even right here in our own country too. Starvation, war, so many atrocities -just mind boggling.

I wish there was an acceptable identifiable resolution to this. What it would take to really stop it is quite unpalatable and is not guaranteed to work.

My heart goes out to the individuals who suffer and die because of ideology.

  1. Danielle: Thank you for bringing it to my attention so I could participate.

Jennifer: I don't share the things that touch my humanity often here. But this was one time I felt I should.

Kimmie: I didn't know as much as I should have, so this was an important exercise for me too.

RLL: So many don't, including myself. I knew things were happening, but I didn't really comprehend the scale of it.

    Akelamalu: Thanks.

Jeni: Exactly. Striving for peace and tolerance is daunting, but I think it's important for people like us to continue to advocate for it.

Turn: Human rights takes a world commitment and tolerance. But I wonder if humanity will ever be ready to accept the religious and political differences of all people enough to make peace in the world.

Resolution of this tragedy is so important.. difficult situation. Thanks for sharing it..seems to be on the backburner of lots of folks who could actually do something about it. 'sigh'

The way we as humans can treat other humans is one of my best answers as to why I don't think we are evolving, but quite the opposite.

The continual suffering these people are subjected to is unbeleivable.

It's horrific there Travis. What a shame. There are kids right here that are starving too, but you are right it's much more than that. Excellent post. Have a great day. :)

We really do take too much for granted.

  1. I apreciate that post. It is something that we all should be aware of and do what ever we can and feel led to do.

  1. I did not know about this. I will go to Danielle's and check it out. She does such a great job with global awareness issues.

Darfur is an unspeakable tragedy. Why can't we use the money that spins this ridiculous political process called an "election" to stop the suffering in Darfur.....

  1. Shelby: I knew it was bad there in a generic kind of way. But when you really dig in and read, it's horrifying.

    Jeff: Well said.

    Regina: Thanks for stopping by.

Sandee: There's so much pain in the world.

    Pauline: Indeed.

Leigh: That's the key...we can feel badly, but there must also be action.

    Roger: It was my pleasure.

    Jennifer: Will do.

Mimi: I was pleased that Danielle asked me to participate.
