Seven things & eight things
Posted: Thursday, May 01, 2008 by Travis Cody inSome new blogging friends tagged me with a couple of memes quite some time ago. I'm embarrassed that it's taken me so long to get to these. Sorry friends!
But before I get to the memes, I just wanted to share something I came across yesterday. Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace carried Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon university around the bases when Tucholsky injured her knee rounding first base after hitting the first home run of her career. It was a 3 run shot that helped to eliminate Central Washington from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference post season softball tournament.
Why did they do it? Holtman said, "You deserve it, you hit it over the fence".

And now the memes...
Mike at Rambling Stuff tagged me for the 7 Random Things.
1. I stopped and started college several times before I finally completed my degree in 2000. I took a BS in Business Administration from University of Phoenix extension campus in Woodland Hills CA.
2. I have a football that I won off a radio contest. The question was, Who holds the Oakland Raiders single season record for most interceptions? I knew the answer was Lester Hayes with 13 in 1980. The football is signed by Howie Long, a Hall of Fame defensive end for the Raiders from 1981 to 1993. Long's son Chris was the second selection in the 2008 NFL draft, by the St Louis Rams.
3. I started writing poetry "for real" in 1990. I had written some verses for creative writing classes, but nothing that I ever kept. I never thought that poetry was a medium in which I could express what I had to say. One of these early "real" verses I wrote that had some kind of thought behind it was this one:
What makes a person contrary?
Why do some decry the strange or different view?
Why must I hide and be wary?
What makes me less valid than you?
4. I played one season of Little League baseball when I was about 10, but I didn't like it much.
5. Remember the old style waffle stomper boots? They were all the rage when I was in junior high. I remember whining like a 4 year old for those boots, but my mom wouldn't get them for me because my feet were still growing.
6. My first job was delivery driver for Domino's Pizza. Then I worked up through the ranks to Crew Chief, then to Manager in Training, and finally to Manager of my own store.
7. I am technically a member of the baby boomer generation, which is classified as any person born between 1946 and 1964. I was born in 1964.
Then Jennifer at Dust Bunny Hostage tagged me for the 8 Things.
1. I enjoy musical theatre.
2. I believe that there are some sports uniforms that should never be altered from the classic style. These include the Dodgers and Yankees in baseball, the Celtics and Lakers in basketball, and the Raiders and Cowboys in football.
3. I despise baggy clothes.
4. I tried smoking once when I was about 12. It tasted nasty so I never tried it again.
5. I don't really understand the need to put tattoos all over yourself.
6. I bought a new dictionary a couple of years ago, but my Thesaurus is 30 years old.
7. I find it outrageous that some students think it's acceptible to write formal papers for their classes using texting shorthand or emoticons. Click here for more.
8. One of my pet peeves is the accepted use by sports pronouncers of the term "time outs". This is slang. The proper way to say it is "times out".
Thanks for the tags! I'm trying to catch up on all my outstanding memes.
As always, feel free to steal or borrow if you like.
I love the story of the female athletes. Shows that sportsmanship still lives in the hearts of some athletes.
A Howie Long autographed football?! WOW! I'm envious. Of course, I'd be more envious if it was actually Howie Long himself...*grin*
I'm a baby boomer, too - born in '62. Sigh. Can't believe I just admitted that.
