A dumb phrase

This could be the most idiotic phrase uttered by pronouncers in college sports.

"This is the Nth time that these two teams have met."

This is college sports. Seniors graduate, freshman join the squad, sometimes student-athletes transfer, or professional prospects leave school early to enter the draft.

As such, the two teams would never have met more than once with the exact same group of players unless they played more than once in the same season.

College sports programs can meet many times across the years. But the closest two particular teams of the exact same group of players would get to playing each other more than once would be the group of freshman, sophomores, and juniors who might play the home-and-home over two years.

This particular phrase annoys me slightly more than the phrase "he's as good as anybody else".

That is all.

On a similar note, why do the people who print "This page is blank" (usually at the end of exam papers) fail to realise that No, it bl--dy isn't now!

Amen, Travis... Each year is a different team...

  1. I hate any and all statistics given during games, especially the ones that sound so made up, like "number of passes when the wind was 40 miles an hour and for longer than 30 yards."

Geez! Shuddup already and lemme watch the frackin' game!

  1. I did not understand a word of what you just said my friend but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  1. What sport was that?

  1. I do understand what you are saying about the teams being different each time they meet...

but those of us who feel strongly about college rivalries...cal v stanford....UCLA v USC...don't think of how often those "sports programs" have met..we think about how often "teams from these schools" have met.

I guess the sports guys could say "this is the Nth time these two schools" have met on the football field...

    eh
    I dunno.
