Go Huskies!

Congratulations to the University of Washington, who beat the University of Florida yesterday to win the Women's College World Series and the national championship in softball.

The #3 seed Cougars beat the #1 seed Gators 2 games to 0 in the 3 game championship series. National Player of the Year Danielle Lawry went the distance on the mound in both games, striking out the final two Florida hitters with the tying and winning runs on first and second.

And just as an addendum to yesterday's post, after UW made the victory pile they walked the sportsmanship line to slap hands with the Gators.

Hey! Did you know there was a west coast thing going on in college softball? Since the inception of the Women's CWS in 1982, the Pac 10 conference has won 22 championships including this one by Washington. UCLA (11), Arizona (8), Arizona St, and Cal are the other Pac 10 schools to win.

And, CS Fullerton and Fresno State have each won. Texas A&M (2), Oklahoma, and Michigan are the only schools east of the Sierras that have won championships in softball.

Way to go Huskies!

I need to ask a favor. Can you go read this post at Hope Radio? All I'm asking is that you read and then do what is in you to do. No obligation. Just one more post as you make your rounds.

Thanks.

At least my Sooner girls were able to break into this very elite club.
It's like college wrestling, there was a period of 20 years when the national title never left the Big 8 (now 12). In fact for 18 of those years it never left the state of Oklahoma, as OU and OK State usually took the top honors. Only Iowa State was able to wrestle the title away from the Sooners and Cowboys.
Congratulations to the Huskies for carrying on a tradition of great softball in the west.

I have to share a quick story - not long ago a warrior station in Iraq contacted one of the employees I work with via email requesting anything that we could send to our guys over there. She forwarded the email company wide (including all 50 states) and within a matter of minutes email responses went wild. I know of at least 4 large boxes of stuff we sent and probably some I don't know about.

These guys are always so grateful to receive these boxes and the 'goodies' that are enclosed. But moreover - let them know they are not forgotten while they are over there serving their country.

    Salute!

Marsha is right. They just dearly love mail. They have an adjusted sense of time and space and it is very Groundhog dayish there. Mail breaks the routine and reminds them of why they are doing what they are doing and that people care.

At my feet I have four envelopes with DVDS i burned of sifferent kinds of TV shows WITH commericials. ha. TOday's offerings also have pictures of my sons freaking out in front of the Xbox and the unique way my littlest eats a brownie. Hee.

I can stretch a dollar that is for sure. Couponing and a network of other loval couponers tend to help me with what I need to lay my hands on.

What holds me up sometimes is the shipping. I will be setting up a blog to track expenses and show pictures of dated receipts. I would want to know where my money goes, too.

For posts on what I do just word search my blog via "military, Marines, couponing and Mike" and you should find quite a few cool pics of what we do.'

This is my 3rd year our family has been in milsupport.

I worry most in summer about hese guys and gals. It gets pretty miserable there now with the mindblowing heat and sandstorms.

Thanks Trav. You're a dear for posting. xox Hope
