And cue music

Welcome to So You Think You Can Dance. These are the auditions from Phoenix AZ. Judges are Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Mia Michaels. Anya and Pasha choreographed Latin ballroom.
There was a gal called Sasha who was just so enchanting. She had a very beautiful solo. She auditioned before in season 4 and made it again straight to Vegas. In addition to her, I saw several female contemporary dancers who actually told stories in their auditions. Nice.

There was a gal called Allison who is hearing impaired. What I like about this show is that the judges acknowledge physical challenges but they judge the dancing. She measured up in choreography and earned her way to Vegas.

It's the return of same sex Latin ballroom, with Jacob and Willem. The dancing actually was very good. They had some excellent lines and there really was nothing wrong with their technique. They were put through to choreography, where they each performed equally well with female partners. And off they both went to Vegas.

Oh we've got a B-Boy named Legacy. He's good, but he was a bit light on tricks. I remember how good Hok and Dominic were in season 3. That's a huge standard against which to measure up.

Tune in next week as we head east for more auditions.

*****It's very sad that I have no graphics because I'm still guesting on other computers since my laptop screen died and I have to use wonky things like this to delineate a break in subjects*****

Please join me in honoring the following celebrities who have passed recently:

Army Archerd (13 Jan 1922 - 8 Sept 2009) was a Hollywood columnist for Variety. He died from mesothelioma.

Larry Gelbart (25 Feb 1928 - 11 Sept 2009) was a TV writer, playwright, screenwriter, and author. He was a primary developer and co-writer of M*A*S*H and of the screenplay for Tootsie. He died from cancer.

Henry Gibson (21 Sept - 14 Sept 2009) was an actor and songwriter best known as a cast member on Laugh-in and on Boston Legal. He died from cancer.

Myles Brand (17 May 1942 - 16 Sept 2009) was a former president of Indiana University and also of the NCAA. He died from pancreatic cancer.

Mary Travers (11 Nov 1936 - 16 Sept 2009) was a singer songwriter with Peter, Paul, and Mary. She died of leukemia.

Celebrities garner accolades for their performances and attention when they pass. So I note them here, and from this extend my sincere condolences to all who have fought or may be fighting battles against cancer.

One of my favourite clips from M*A*S*H is the one where they all sing "Dona Nobis Pacem" - and to think he died on Sept 11th... (I put that video up on FB that day)

Mary Travers' passing makes my heart hurt.

    I hate cancer.

    Hi Travis

My first stop back in the bloggosphere...I went back and watched a few videos and read some of the things you wrote about the show and today's posting of celebrity losses.

I have not seen any of the audition shows.

Thanks for coming by and commenting each day over the last week.

  1. Akelamalu says:

Cancer has so much to answer for. :(

  1. Jamie says:

We seem to be losing so many cherished public people of late. Mary Travers particularly hurt as you will see in a story. Thank you for paying particular attention to those lost to Cancer. We lost Patrick Swayze to Pancreatic Cancer as well.

  1. I did not know about Mary Travers. When will it end?

  1. Travis says:

Ann: I think M*A*S*H was most effective when it made you laugh until you couldn't breathe, and then hit you with something serious.

    V: Welcome back!

    Akelamalu: Indeed.

Jamie: It seems like cancer is snagging more than its share.

Mimi: I suspect it will continue.

  1. so many taken by cancer recently.

    Cancer Sucks.

  1. Julie says:

I'm glad you enjoyed DANCE. I knew you would! So sad about Mary Travers. I've been listening a lot to PP&M music.

  1. Did you hear that Adam is going to be a permanent judge?
