Senior Day

Yes, I know the Irish played their final home game of the 2009 season last Saturday. You'll recall that I was taking a short break last weekend. But I didn't want to let the occasion pass without mentioning the Irish seniors.

I certainly appreciate the show of solidarity last Saturday, when the seniors led Notre Dame onto the field before the game against UConn, arm in arm with Coach Charlie Weis. It was a fine show of support from some fine young men.

Whatever the fate of Coach Weis and the Notre Dame program at the end of this season, I salute the young men who have weathered the ups and downs of the last four years with determination, pride, and respect.

Last Saturday was Senior Day at Notre Dame. Congratulations to these young men, thank you for your dedication, and best wishes for your futures.

    They've definitely had their challenges of late. Nice to see them locked together like that though.

    Our big college game is coming up. It's Civil War time with the Rose Bowl as the proverbial carrot dangling in front of their noises.

    What a nice surprise for me to find your salute to the Irish - and the seniors. I LUV to watch football and I try to catch the Fighting Irish whenever I can.

    I know I mostly talk about kniting on my granny site, but knitting goes with football!!!

    Michael Floyd, wide receiver for the Irish, graduated from 'goodnight's mother's high school. In fact, Floyd's alma mater took the state prep bowl in their class AAAAA last night.

    Anyhoo, thanks for the salute. We'll see what happens to coach Weis, eh?

    Congratulations to each of these students/athletes. There will be some interesting developments with many college football programs and their coaches in the coming days.

    Next weekend is a BIG one for my Tide. The Iron Bowl fried my nerves. The SEC Championship game will be just as stressful!

    Jeff: The Apple Cup went the right direction for me yesterday, although I always feel for the seniors of whichever side doesn't win. I'll root for both schools, but when they go head to head I'm a Husky.

    GGG: I say that knitting is something to keep your hands busy while you're mind is concentrating on football!

    Jennifer: Bama sure flirted with the upset, didn't they? Now at least I can sort of convince myself that the SEC championship game is a sort of playoff between two undefeated teams, with the winner getting one spot in the BCS championship.

    Mimi: I think it's important.

    Kanani: I can and it's ok.
