Trav's Thoughts

Yesterday was our annual Trick or Treat event at my work.  We host a pot luck and costume contest for employees and their families.  It's a good time.  Then the kids get to safely trick or treat at our work stations.  There are nearly 1500 people in our building.  About half had candy bowls.  That's a pretty good haul.  

I decorated our floor.  I mean the entire west side of our floor.  It looks pretty dang awesome.  Haunted house theme with several vignettes...a spooky entry way, a dungeon, a cemetery.  The works, you know?  It came out so well that several of the vignettes ended up as photo stations for the kids and their parents as they moved through the floor.  I can't share photos because of proprietary reasons.  Trust me...it's really good.

Kids are kids.  They trip over stuff and they pick stuff up to examine it.  They get excited by things.  I don't mind that.  They pick something up and put it back down and no harm done. 

People are people.  They want what they want and they do what they do.  I do mind that sometimes.  I mind that they move stuff because it's not right for the photo they want.  I mind that they sit their kids on things that really aren't designed for sitting on.  And I mind that they don't put the things back when they finish getting the exact photo they want.

It's a measure of my own state of peace that, although I mind that people are who they are and do carelessly inconsiderate things with stuff that doesn't belong to them, I don't get upset.  I just go back through the vignettes and put everything in order again so other people who walk through later can see and enjoy the decorations as I intended them to be seen and enjoyed.

I don't think it's necessary to interact viscerally with something to have a good time with it, and get your Halloween photo.  But other people do. 

So people are people and we're all different.  I wouldn't have it any other way, although I think we can all agree that a little consideration for other people's things is pretty nice.
