Thursday 13 - Peace in the Library

Just a quick note about Dona Nobis Pacem yesterday. I spend a wonderful evening cruising around the bloggosphere checking out the globes and posts. I want to thank and congratulate Mimi and her Peace Elves for all the hard work. I've still got more places I want to visit too.

Whoa! Hold the phone! I'm doing a 13 two weeks in a row.

Come with me kids as we take another peaceful turn through my library.

OH WAIT!! Before we do that...check these out...

These are my new bookends. I bought three pair. I need to use the tops of my bookcases because of spillover. So I'm going to hi-light some special collections, like these...

These children's classics are volumes my mother had as a child. I read them over and over when I was a kid. The copyright dates are all from the 1920's and 1930's. There are no actual dates of publication on any of the volumes, just the copyright dates.

Anyway, I thought the bookends were very classic. So I'll use two sets in the library. Then I have a small two shelf bookcase I got from my grandpa. The Brittanica yearbooks you see in that first photo will go on that, and then the third set of bookends will go on top. I also have a set of Brittanica encyclopedias that are over 50 years old.

So the bookends have a classic look to go with classic books, and they'll be a nice design element to bridge the walkway between the library and the living room.

Now for that peaceful walk in the stacks. Here are the next 13 authors in my library.

1. Terry Brooks - The Shannara series
2. Dale Brown - Flight of the Old Dog, Spy Masters, Night of the Hawk, Chains of Command, Storming Heaven, Fatal Terrain, Tin Man
3. RL Bruckberger - Image of America
4. Steven Brust - Jhereg, Yendi, Teckla, Taltos, Phoenix, Athyra, Five Hundred Years Later, Phoenix Guards
5. Jim Butcher - Harry Dresden series
6. Gerry Carroll - North Star
7. Jack Chalker - Flux and Anchor series
8. Raymond Chandler - Big Sleep, Farewell My Lovely, High Window
9. CJ Cherryh - Heavy Time, Fortress in the Eye of Time
10. Tom Clancy - Hunt For Red October, Red Storm Rising, Patriot Games, Cardinal of the Kremlin, Clear and Present Danger, Sum of All Fears, Without Remorse, Debt of Honor, Executive Orders
11. Molly Cochran with Warren Murphy - The Forever King
12. Susan Conant - The Barker Street Regulars
13. Michael Conley - Fang the Gnome, King of the Sceptred Isle

Peace out y'all!

I like your blogblast post, and love the feeling of the larger blog community united on one day.

Neat bookends - I picture a litle elf taking a rest there.

  1. Cool bookends. Our reading only intersects with Tom Clancy on that list. And most if not all of the children's classics.

  1. Barb says:

When my books spilled over I got a 2nd bookcase. I'm seriously facing needing a 3rd one soon.

Nice collection of books. I love the Jack Ryan Clancy books, too.

  1. I'm not a Thursday Thirteener but since you had your peace globe flying I came right in.

I have many more to visit, too! They are really, really lovely and the posts are meaningful and full of substance.

I think you've caught peace fever!

  1. Meribah says:

Oooo! I like the bookends. They go great with the literature. A house just doesn't feel the same without books, does it? Hugs!

  1. Terra: Very cool globes. The more I look at the bookends, the better I like them.

Tina: Couldn't agree more about an overflowing library. Peace!

    Queenie: Thanks and welcome!

Lisa: I'm wondering if I should just keep going and post the whole library!

Joely: Now that I have them all out again, I'm seeing some gaps that need filling.

Bee: Maybe I'll post pictures of my absolute favorites. Stay tuned!

Matt: I'm embarrassed to say that I have no Faulkner in this library.

Turn: Sounds like an opportunity for a summer project...or perhaps a winter one?? Unbox those books baby!

CS: It's been a great week checking out the peace posts. Thanks for dropping by!

Jeff: I'm way behind on my Clancy reading though - gotta catch up.

Skittles: I know the feeling - I've now spilled out of 5 cases!

  1. Hi travis.
    thanks for stopping in.
    peace.

as a child i enjoyed books by
    Enid Blyton.
she does not seem to have been that popular here in the states though.

those book ends would look good in my miniature collection.

  1. BenSpark says:

  1. Gail says:

Love the bookends, dearie. It's like you have little pieces of "the Couch" all over your library...

Hmmm, is Bond missing some seats?

  1. Unknown says:

Okay, now I really feel like an illiterate idiot. I haven't read many of the authors on your bookshelf. The good news: I just got my New York Public Library Card today! The bad news: I have no idea where to start my tour through the best authors list.

  1. Those are some great bookends. I see you've got a few Jack Chalker books. Have you ever read his Well World series? I think it's the best stuff he's done, the first three or four Well World books are great.

  1. Exskindiver: Thanks and welcome!

    Drew: Back atcha!

Tara: I enjoyed the tour through the globes.

    Catsynth: Thanks!

    Meowers: Purrs and head rubs!

Gail: I didn't even think about The Couch when I bought those!

Steven: Nope, not an illiterate...just a different kind of reader.

John: The only Chalker I've read is the Flux. I'll have to check out the others. It's been a long time since I thought of Chalker.

  1. I am envious of your beautiful library! I love books and wish I had that kind of collection. Love the bookends by the way! LC

  1. Hi Travis, thanks for visiting. We wish you a peaceful life. We have a load more to visit, and with our terrible broadband connection, we'll probably still be visiting by the time the next peace globe day arrives.

  1. JAM says:

Sorry that I missed this on Thursday. I invariably miss a few that make me smack my head and wonder how I missed them. Oh well.

Those children's classics books look great. I love having stuff from my childhood, even if it's a separate copy. We had a book we all read as kids that Big Sis claimed, and I found one exactly like it a couple of years ago. I treasure it as if it was given to me by my mother.

I loved all the Tom Clancy and Dale Brown books years ago, but haven't read Mr. Brown's stuff in years. It would take me quite a while to catch up with him again.

Take care, I'll try to be on time next week.

    The book ends are awesome.

  1. Love the bookends...The old encyclopedia's...wish I had kept those...thanks for sharing...good list of books
