Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World. Today's theme is Frost.
I grew up in areas of California that don't get snow. In fact, they barely get the full effect of four seasons.
My first winter in Washington was pretty mild. I was in the southwestern part of the state, 30-odd miles from Mt St Helens. We had some ice and frost, but no snow.
My second winter was a little more fierce. I had moved to the greater Puget Sound area and I experienced my first snow that actually stuck to the ground for a day or two. I drove in snow for the first time.
Last winter, I experienced my first blizzard complete with thunder snow. Of course it was nothing like what hits the east and midwest. But it was a big deal here. I got stuck on an icy road for two hours and had to wait until the falling snow built up enough to cover the ice. Then I was able to get the traction to move up a hill and then safely down the hill. Once I got home I got stuck in a snow drift in the driveway of my apartment complex.
It was quite frosty and really beautiful in the full light of day, from the warmth of my apartment, and knowing I didn't have to try and drive in it.
It's kind of hard to tell from these pictures, but there was over a foot of snow on the ground.
The very worst was the freeze that happened after it snowed. We had maybe 4-5 days of sub-freezing temps, and naturally the snow became ice. One day I had a 4" thick sheet of ice in the apartment parking area. I couldn't even back my vehicle out of my space.
It would be nice to have some snow again this winter. I'm much closer to my office this time, so in the worst case I could walk to and from work.
I would like a little bit of winter weather...
great pictures!
