You find the strangest things

We met my folks at a car show this weekend at the Lucky Eagle Casino. I forgot my camera...DOH!

We saw a '55 and a '57 TBird...no '56, but that's ok. There was also a '54 Corvette and a '68 Camero, and a '68 Cougar. These are all favorites of mine.

Pam enjoys the older models, 1940s era mostly. She's partial to 1946 model fat fendered Fords. She also loves the older Model A's. There weren't many of those, but we did see a 1932 yellow roadster.

We also nearly got fooled by an aluminum body Mustang Cobra with a Shelby engine. My stepdad was sure it was the real deal when we walked up to it. But then we saw the plate on the engine block...it was a replica. But it was a damn fine replica.

And we had some fantastic food at the seafood buffet. I'm not usually a fan of seafood, but the shrimp and fried crab was terrific. And I had a rib eye steak. Everyone else went for the grilled sole or salmon steak. They had oysters on the half shell and crab legs and lobster tails and all the fixings too. And all that delicious surf and turf was only about $25 a plate. Plus, there was all kinds of CAKE!

Nice eh? Sorry about the stock images. I can't believe we forgot the camera.

Of course, the most unusual thing we saw was in the rest rooms. It used to be, you went to a public rest room, took care of business, washed up, and that was that. These days though, everything is automated...so much so that sometimes you have to pause and read the dang directions just to figure out where the dang sensor is.

Ever felt like an idiot pressing on the soap dispenser when all you had to do was wave your hand in the right place? Then it squirts all over the counter because you didn't have your other hand in the right spot to catch it. Grrrrr.

So these days you've got your motion sensor flush toilets, your motion sensor soap dispenser, your motion sensor water faucets, and your motion sensor paper towel dispenser. Or your motion sensor electric hand dryer. It's a wonder there's no motion sensor toilet paper dispenser.

But I'll tell you what we do have. We've got motion sensor automated toilet seat covers. I kid you not.

Mom and Pam thought these were the cat's meow. Of course I had to march right back into the men's room and check the stalls...damned if they didn't have them in there too! You could either wave your hand in front of the sensor for a new cover, or press a button on the side of the dispenser.

Wacky!

Has anybody else seen these things? It was a first for us and quite a thrill.

LOL!

    You forgot your camera?????? :(

I love old cars, they have so much more character than new ones.

Mmmmm the food sounds good, I love seafood, but then I love steak too!

Automated restrooms are so much more hygenic, I like the seat covers, I wish all restrooms had those!

You forgot your camera?!!!!! That's just wrong!
Yes, I've seen the "George Jetson" toilet seat covers. I find them pretty amusing as well.
You have described a few of my favorite vehicles. I'm tellin' ya, we're related somehow.

  1. Marsha says:

Drilleraa may be related to you but I'm pretty sure I'm related to Pam. The 40's-and-before cars are so sweet!

Automatic seat covers??? Dang that means the gals don't have to 'hover-sit' on toilets anymore. How cool is that!

  1. WOW! I have not seen those yet! Thats amazing ;)

Did you see my story about the little girl that was so afraid of the autoflush that her mom was having a hard time getting her to "potty" and when MINE flushed in the next stall, she went balistic?

Poor kiddo - I'm not laughing. No, not me, I am not mean!

I have seen the auto seat covers one time and you are right - they are cool. But I swear, I am so negative. I see stuff like that and I think "Now how long will these last before they tear up?"

Thank you for your support to my Little Dude. I read him comments from that post to show him that people cared. It was a little rough this morning. He just needs time to get used to it. LOTS of changes in a short time.

    Anyway Travis, I appreciate you.

I'm all for NOT touching anything in a public restroom. Just saying. Have a great day Travis. :)

Never seen -or heard of -the automated seat covers although that does look pretty neat!
Since I now know you like old cars and such, I will have to make a special point of taking some pics of my son's "new" pick-up truck he just brought back (drove it cross-country from Nevada to PA)! It's a 1971 Chevy pick-up, painted a bright, canary yellow and really is pretty doggone cool! Even though it doesn't have power steering and sometimes takes me a whole lot of elbow grease to get it positioned when I have to turn it around.

  1. Looks like a good time. Did you do any gambling?

I always seem to forget my camera and the best camera-worthy shots pop us. GRRRR!

Aren't those automated seat covers cool? I'm so geek about cool stuff like that.

  1. I think pictures of events are overrated. How many vacations have you been on and then really sat back some time later and studied them with keen appreciation. I'm more of a mind with Maude, the character from "Harold and Maude" Given a necklace as a gift by Harold, she studied it for a long time and then cast it into a lake. He looks horror stricken. "Now I'll always know where it is," she insists.

  1. Holy crap, I want car photos, I love old cars, today the cars have no character, not so back then.....

I hate it when I forget my camera but I've gotten much better at remembering it - most times!

I don't mind that you don't have pictures of the cars but that buffet sounds wonderful and I would love to have seen some cake pictures!

The Mohegan Sun Casino has had the automated toilet seat covers since they opened quite some time ago. They are the first and only place that I've ever seen them and I think that they're absolutely fantastic. You guys who stand most of the time probably don't care but for those of us who prefer to sit rather than try to hover over the bowl, they are a God-send!

  1. RW says:

    Nooooooooooooooo Cameraaaaaaaaaaa! Blasphemy you say!

  1. You forgot...WHAT??!?!?!?!?! OMG. I can't believe I'm still on speaking terms with you.

    Hrmpf.

    *wink*

Glad you got to drool over the cars. Oh, and about that seafood buffet, I'm proud of you for eating something that normally you don't. Ha.

  1. Akelamalu: I know! I couldn't believe it. But we had fun without the picture pressure.

Drilleraa: You're shaking your head at me, aren't you? I deserve it.

Marsha: We saw a great looking 1946Merc...it was a deep eggplant color and it was just gorgeous.

Bitter Betty: Those seats were quite wacky!

Jennifer: I missed that story, and I'm sure you didn't laugh...much! I hope the little guy had a better day!

Sandee: These restrooms were well tended, but I do know what you mean.

    Bee: LOL! You're silly!

Jeni: That'll be cool! I love me some classic vehicles.

Travis: No gambling this time. I can't handle the cigarette smoke for long enough to spend time in the casino.

    Lois: I'm such a bonehead!

Stewart: I agree that sometimes pictures are overrated, but one can never really have too many pictures of cool classic cars.

Sarge: I'll have to dig through some of my older pictures. I've posted most of them before, but we'll pretend I haven't.

Linda: The buffet really was quite good.

    Roger: **hangs head in shame**

Songbird: But you like me still because I'm so charming. Hehehehe!

  1. Ha! Travis. You're way ahead of us here in podunk - NYC! Great toilets! I love the cars too! :)

The auto butt gasket is a pretty cool devise. Haven't had the thrill of seeing one in person though. Cool Beans!

  1. yeah...I've seen them...and I don't like them.

  1. Patti says:

I feel your pain for forgetting your camera. :-(

I love classic cars, especially from the 30s, 40s and 50s. My husband got me interested in them. He loves going to car shows.

Those toilet seat covers are cool. They should be mandatory everywhere.

  1. Is it me or are we becoming automated nearly out of existence?!

  1. Teach: We just thought those things were the coolest!

Jeff: They are quite the toy...be sure to keep an eye out.

    Katherine: Really?

    Patti: Just call me doofus.

    Starr: Good question.

  1. Unknown says:

Oh, that toilet seat cover thing is so totally cool. Plus the food sounded excellent.

  1. Kimmie says:

I never saw one of those toilets until now. How neat is that!?

I'm happy to hear you had a great time at the car show. Tisk, Tisk, at the no camera thing!

    Hugs,
    Kimmie

We came across the auto seat covers a few years back at the Dallas? Airport. I was in the stall next to the daughter when she lets out this EEEEK type squeal... seems she was semi hovering and set it off and it change over and scared her lol.. that was a classic vacation moment~~
Warning.... don't lean over to tie your shoes in one of the auto-flush stalls... your butt gets wet when you break the light beam lol...
