Last night we watched Food Network Challenge, Gingerbread championships from 2005. I just have a one word review...

WOW!

I'll refer you to the ABC News website for pictures of the finalists from the 2005 show. The pictures below are from Google Images, not necessarily from the competition. They are truly works of art.

And every last bit is edible except for the bases.

They are so beautiful! How could you break off a piece to taste? Maybe just pass me a plate of gingerbread cookies instead!

YUM-OH!!

    Wonderful!

The problem with all of those grand gingerbread creations is I could never picture myself biting in to a piece.

  1. Oh my! They're gorgeous :)

I love the challenge shows. I am always amazed at what these chefs can do. It's pretty obvious that no one ever told the not to play with their food.

  1. Anndi says:

We haven't made gingerbread houses in ages. Maybe we'll put that on our list of activities.

Aren't those amazing? Makes those graham cracker houses we made as children look like child's play (oh that didn't make sense... but you know what I meant saying that).

TGIF... Have a great weekend, Travis!

  1. Lizza says:

Those are amazing! I hope they taste as good as they look.

  1. Ivanhoe says:

These are wonderful. It would be a shame to eat them :o)

  1. Kanani says:

Wow! I really like the one with the houses all nestled in a tree. Now that's very creative!
Thanks for sharing. I haven't decorated yet. I'll start in on it today!

WOW! is absolutely right. It's amazing to me how people can build these wonderful houses/buildings but even more amazing to me that people eat them as I'd just want to look at them and never snap off a piece of porch railing or roof or any of it!

  1. Wow! is right. Those are amazing. I don't know if I could bring myself to eat them though. Too purty.

  1. I caught some of that the other day...

    Those people are artists....

  1. Akelamalu says:

Good grief, how much work goes into those???

  1. Jeff B says:

Nice to have a plate of cookies to munch instead of breaking into any of those masterpieces.

This type of creativity is the only thing about my restaurant days I miss.

So pretty! I fixed the waltz link for you if you'd like to see. I think it'd be your cup of tea.

The weekend before last I made vanilla/spicy Christmas biscuits for my friend's tree and had planned to make more for my brother's xmas pressie.. but now I want to make gingerbread. Dilema.

  1. Oh yeah. I can see myself doing that. I'll whip one up right now!

  1. Cherie says:

Ginger is the bread of the day. I've been seeing it everywhere, but I admit that I saw yours first, so they must all be copying you. ;)

It must be great to be a trend setter. :)

  1. Nick: I know!

    Terra: Yup!

Drilleraa: I never thought about it like that.

Ann: I saw a kit in the grocery the other day.

Lois: LOL! Yeah, I know what you meant!

Lizza: I don't know if I could break a piece off...they are too pretty to eat.

Ivanhoe: Even thought everything on them is supposed to be edible, I don't know that I would eat any of it.

Kanani: We'll put out our stockings and a few other small things.

Linda: I think the consensus is that eating one of these would be tough for most of us.

    Charles: Agreed.

V: Some people spent nearly 300 hours working on them. Incredible!

    Akelamalu: A lot!

Jeff: I almost bought some gingerbread cookies...now I wish I would have.

    TC: Do both!

    Mimi: HA!

    Cherie: Tis the season!

  1. I love the one with the lights inside! I saw a "gingerbread" log cabin made of hard pretzels in a magazine the other day. It was so clever!

  1. TopChamp says:

    dilemma. How many m's? I say 2.

  1. The White House Chef always does a White House for the White HOuse that is on display. Incredily beautiful and amazing.

  1. Julie says:

I could! I could tear right into one of those. Especially the one with the licorice whips! Yummy!

  1. Jeni says:

Unbelievable! Absolutely incredible that someone can make creations like these out of gingerbread, isn't it? I wouldn't have the patience for that much work nor would I probably have the components to build with either, having most likely been eating at them all along! Great post -excellent pictures!

  1. We've seen this episode a few times, but we still like it. Amazing what people do with gingerbread and icing.

  1. Janna says:

    Hey, wow!
I'm not much of a gingerbread fan, but I have to admit, these look amazing!

I love Food Network Challenges - however, I worry about all that food that never gets eaten!
