I've been counting down the days to this year's Blog Blast for Peace with peace quotes. And now that we are on the eve of the big day, I thought I'd recap the quotes I chose.

4 Oct “Peace is not something you wish for; It's something you make, Something you do, Something you are, And something you give away.” Robert Fulghum

5 Oct “Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.” Mahatma Ghandi

6 Oct “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

7 Oct “Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.” John F Kennedy

8 Oct "More than an end to war, we want an end to the beginning of all wars -- yes, an end to this brutal, inhuman and thoroughly impractical method of settling the differences between governments." Franklin D. Roosevelt

9 Oct "Be kind whenever possible…It is always possible." The Dalai Lama

10 Oct "All you need is love. Love is all you need." John Lennon

11 Oct "It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it." Eleanor Roosevelt

12 Oct "I believe that to meet the challenges of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. Each of us must learn to work not just for oneself, one's own family or nation, but for the benefit of all humankind. Universal responsibility is the key to human survival. It is the best foundation for world peace." The Dalai Lama

13 Oct "I refuse to accept the idea that man is mere flotsam and jetsam in the river of life, unable to influence the unfolding events which surround him. I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality." Dr Martin Luther King Jr

14 Oct "Peace is the respect for the rights of others." Benito Juarez

15 Oct "Nothing could be worse than the fear that one had given up too soon, and left one unexpended effort that might have saved the world." Jane Addams

16 Oct "Bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace. We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day. Dona Nobis Pacem." Mimi Lenox

17 Oct "The power of a movement lies in the fact that it can indeed change the habits of people. This change is not the result of force but of dedication, of moral persuasion." Stephen Biko

18 Oct "Yes, we are all different. Different customs, different foods, different mannerisms, different languages, but not so different that we cannot get along with one another. If we will disagree without being disagreeable." J. Martin Kohe

19 Oct "I believe that words have power, so this matters."

20 Oct "There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community." M. Scott Peck

21 Oct "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these." George Washington Carver

22 Oct "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." Viktor Frankl

24 Oct "Snowflakes, leaves, humans, plants, raindrops, stars, molecules, microscopic entities all come in communities. The singular cannot in reality exist." Paula Gunn Allen

25 Oct "Speak softly with authority while breathing in peace and breathing out love." Sometimes Saintly Nick

26 Oct "People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within." Ramona L Anderson

27 Oct "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." Leo Buscaglia

28 Oct "Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us." John N Mitchell

31 Oct "If I have been of service, if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action, if I am at peace with myself, it has been a successful day." Alex Noble

1 Nov "A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history." Mohandas Ghandi

2 Nov "Be the change you want to see in the world." Mahatma Ghandi

3 Nov "Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are." Hafsat Abiola

And the quote for today, 4 Nov, Blog Blast Eve?

  1. Great idea to recap your peace quotes - I just love the one from Oct. 22nd.

  1. October 5th's strikes a chord with me. Oh, and diversity truly does NOT need to be divisive. We are so polarized now as a nation; it makes me physically ill at times. Why must we be so divided?

  1. Julia: I've really been looking forward to having them all on this one post.

Songbird: I think we remain divided because some still prefer to deal in fear rather than potential.

    Marilyn: Me too!

  1. Travis,I agree with you reply to sondbird.
